A Zoo Visit And A Half Marathon
The day after the final parkrun, I spent time with my son at Australia Zoo and ran the Twilight Bay Run half marathon at Wynnum.
The official HAA finish was yesterday. Today I took my son to Australia Zoo, then headed to Wynnum for the Twilight Bay Run half marathon.
I’d only just seen him again at South Bank after four months apart, so a bit of R&R together was lovely. We walked around the zoo, and I joked that the walking would be a good warm-up for the evening run. I was about to find out.
Twilight Bay Run had given me a discounted entry in support of HAA. I was excited to run it, though 21.1 km was a fairly substantial way to follow up the final parkrun. The event started in the light and finished after dark. It was a fab evening with friends old and new, and I met parkrun’s “Prof” Alan Burrell, whose work with parkrun stats I already knew about.
The course was a deceptively tough little one. I ran all 21.1 km without stopping, the furthest I’d run continuously in four months or more. I even managed a sprint finish because I couldn’t let David beat me 😆
I finished in around 2:45, comfortably inside the three hours I’d have been happy with and faster than my first half marathon. I was shattered, but very happy with that.
